An intergenerational heritage project exploring the history of migration in the Uphall area, through oral history interviews with older people from the Redbridge Pensioner’s Forum, drama workshops with Scarabeus Aerial Theatre, historical walk and talk around the area led by Redbridge Museum & Heritage Centre and visit to the Redbridge Museum. We researched into the life stories of people living in the area and exploring how the area and community has changed physically, economically and socially since 1906 when Uphall school was built.

The project gave the participants a sense of belonging and pride of their local area. It culminated in two multi-media intergenerational performances in Redbridge Central Library, including projection of the images collected with the children, for the children and elders to share their knowledge of the past and their perceptions of the present with the wider community.

The project was funded by Heritage Lottery and Vision Culture for Redbridge. Images by Belinda Ackermann, historical images courtesy of Redbridge Museum & Heritage Centre.
